On June 11th, 2023, DFWCIA hosted an offline event “Hiking with professionals” in Plano, TX. This is the first in-person activity in three and a half years since the pandemic. Our DCIA VP of membership Jie Song is the main leader of the event, she took charge of the planning, registration and publicity. Our DCIA VP of communication Mark Yin and Director of communication Yingyuan Jiang helped with broadcasting and communication for the event.
In the beginning of the meetup, we gathered in the pavilion of the Arbor Hills nature preserve in Plano. Our director of communication Yingyuan Jiang introduced DCIA and our volunteer team. Then everyone introduced him or herself. We have a Solution architect, software engineer, product manager, and CS students. Many talented people joined us, some people shared openings in their company and some students mentioned they are looking for opportunities. Our goal of the event is to provide social networking for our community, bring connection for everybody. Also as IT professionals, we encourage people in our community to spend more time being active and staying healthy should always be our first priority in life.
The hiking part took about 30 minutes. Everyone was happily talking to each other. We really enjoyed the communications and the beautiful view of nature. Our DCIA officers Mark, Jie and Yingyuan showed fantastic leadership skills during the hiking, like constantly providing help for everyone, making sure we are all safe and engaged. After hiking, though it was super hot outside, most people were still enjoying talking to their hiking buddies so some went to dinner together while others stayed a little longer and chatted more.
We received a lot of appreciation and positive feedback from the community. “This is a really awesome meetup, can’t wait for the next event!” “This is an amazing organization and volunteer team, how can I join?”
